14.9.21 – Tuesday Trust

Tuesday – Trust

In your opinion, what is the most highly regarded human value or quality? Kindness is way up there for me. Might be the most important one. In addition to kindness, I think trust is also way up there. How often do you think of trust?

In today’s pandemic infused world, unfortunately, there are lots of people who don’t trust their government nor the scientific experts. That’s sad. Maybe it’s also due to not knowing which so-called facts we can trust. But I digress…I didn’t want to write about lack of trust.

Is your neighborhood, city and society built on trust? Not always so easy to attain, but I am grateful to be living in a place which has trust as a core value. An example is that there are a lot of places where one can buy goods (usually from farms) by helping oneself and paying by placing the money in a box (or nowadays paying with an app on your phone) without anyone checking on you to make sure you are paying the right amount, because they trust that everyone does. I hope that system stays. If you forget something on a train or bus here, or if you lose something, it happens so often that whoever found the object turns it in to the lost and found office and you will get it back. I’m sure you could share some examples like that too from where you live.

In my journey as a first time self publishing children’s book writer, I have to trust that the amazing people I am working with will do their best work. I don’t have much expertise in illustrating or digital design so I trust that they know what they are doing. My illustrator Kelli is a good friend and I already knew her work, so there was no issue there. I completely trusted that she would paint her best and deliver when the pictures were done.

Now I am hiring a digital book designer. I do not know her personally. After speaking on Zoom once, I have a very good feeling about her. I trust in my own intuition and as soon as we started speaking, I got a positive feeling about Briet. She loves children’s books and has some super awesome and unique illustrations on her website. I could hear in her voice that she was excited to work on this book. I can’t wait to see what she does with the layout on every page, the front and back cover, etc.

Obviously, we have contracts and we have good communication, but there still has to be trust. Do you agree? We place our trust in people throughout our lives. I believe that if we trust in our own judgement, then we can take more risks and also trust others.

Obviously, I wouldn’t go so far as to tell my children to trust everyone. Unfortunately, there are bad people out there and when the boys were little, I signed them up for self defense classes because they were going to be left alone more often. However, something that I repeated often over the years, was that in general, most people are kind and good. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it, and always trust your gut feeling.

I want to end this with a little challenge for you: can you come up with a topic I could write about that starts with M, T, W, Th, F or S ? I will attempt to write about it, if you give me a few to choose from. Are you up for it?

Take care, sweet people. I’ll be writing to you soon again.
