7 May 2021: Friday – Funny Furry Friends

Friday – Funny Furry Friend

I woke up feeling pretty blah. Nothing under my control, it was just the absolute crappy weather we’re having right now. But I don’t want to write about F…Forecast. I was supposed to go see friends I hadn’t seen in a long time, and due to the cold and rain, I cancelled. But thank goodness for my Furry Friend! Our dog Pako. I first wrote about him in this post.

Pako always makes me laugh. What a joy. Bill and I crack up at him because he is such a character. My husband Bill is his primary caregiver. Yes, I used to be the main human for our previous (female) dog, but this (male) is definitely more his. It has a lot to do with both of their muscular strength.

Even though I do yoga, practice headstands and some pushups, I still cannot hold this beast when he decides to lunge or pull. And I am afraid. I lost him twice because I couldn’t hold him, and well, that’s a story for another time. So Bill takes him out every day for a long walk. I often go with them, but there are days when I prefer to stay home. But Pako doesn’t understand that.

Why I would prefer to stay indoors and do yoga rather than run in the mud and smell the trees, he doesn’t get. When Bill gets ready to leave, he goes through the stair gate we have between the ground floor and the bottom floor where we exit the house. Pako holds the gate open with his muzzle. And he looks at me. He glances downstairs where Bill is waiting and stares at me. Obviously, I explain to him that he can go without me, it will be fine and fun. But he stands there, holding the gate for me. Bill calls him, but he waits for me. His pack must be complete. Bill gets the treats. That will work. I go to the yoga mat and lie down.

Pako got his enticing treats and put on his red harness. Ready for the walk. But wait, his female human is not with him. So, he runs back upstairs, through the gate that was left open, and comes into our middle son’s bedroom that has become my yoga studio. He does a downward dog with me to show it’s his favorite position and … that just cracked me up! It was like he was showing support and making me understand that he’ll be back to do yoga with me later.

Sometimes, if he is lying in that room with me while I do some sun salutations, moving with my breath, he inhales and exhales heavily with me. We sigh together and all is good on this day. Take care, sweet people and I hope you have some laughs today.
