Did you hear?

Did you hear? Maybe you felt the excitement emanating from me across the waves in the universe. I had my first author visit/ book reading last week! This is one of the reasons why I wrote and self published my children’s book. To be able to read it live to kids. And yet…

I have never liked my voice. All my school report cards from primary school had the same comments: “Annika is too quiet. She should speak up more in class.” My mom asked me why I don’t speak in class. I told her that I hated my voice.  I was very shy when I was little and was terrified of speaking in class. Now I am a teacher. And children are some of my favorite humans. So, reading my book to them brings me a lot of joy. I don’t care that my voice is not nice anymore. Maybe others don’t notice it like I do.

Do you know what was so special about this first book reading? It was populated by much older children. My book is destined for young kids aged 4 to 7. But after reading the book, I got to do a Q & A session with highschool students! Their english writing teacher brought them to the public library we were at to meet the author and ask questions. What a joy!

So, whatever the reason for writing a book, sharing our experience of the process is very enriching, for the author and the readers.

My next book reading is happening in a couple of weeks at the primary school where our sons went to secondary school. The librarian and principal are organizing the schedule which will include workshops with the older pupils. There will be moments of Mindfulness practice, of course. I’ll let you know how all that goes.

Do you know of a school or a library where I might come to read the book and do some mindfulness exercises with the participants? Or maybe you have a pre teen or teenager who wants to learn how to self regulate and calm their nerves by using Mindfulness. I have experience there and would be happy to do a free session on Zoom as a trial. I can tell you all about what that can look like. Just ask.

Be well, sweet people. Look after yourselves and those you love.
